Frequently I overhear brides trying to figure out how many invitations they need to order to ensure all their guests receive one. If you are inviting 200 guests you more than likely do not need 200 invitations. The actual amount of invitations is probably closer to 100 or 125. However, everyone's guest list is different. Getting your invitation count right can save you money and make a little more wiggle room in your budget.
Ultimately, you need to how many households - at your Aunt Mary's home there is your Aunt Mary and her husband, and their 4 kids that equals 6 people but only 1 invitation. When finalizing your count, be sure to add an invitation for your grandparents, your parents, siblings, bridal party and for yourself. Those are the people that will appreciate having a copy of your wedding invitation and will be very excited to receive it! An extra 10 invitations is always a good idea for last minute additions. Once you have done all of that, round up to the closest 25 because most invitation manufacturers only sell in multiples of 25. That is your real invitation count!
Here are a few bits of information that you'll need to know for printing your invitations:
- Date and time of wedding
- Location and complete address of wedding and reception locations
- Number of people and number invitations needed for wedding and reception
- Groom's middle name
- Bride and Groom's parents full names
Think about where you want responses sent - Usually gifts are sent to the return address on the envelope or to the address printed by the RSVP. If the bride lives in New York, but her wedding will be held in Phoenix where her parents live, it is far easier to have gifts sent to her New York home. Also, who will be keeping track of responses. Whether it is the bride or mother of the bride.that person should receive the responses.
Please be advised, if you are addressing your envelopes yourself, you may want to order an additional 25 envelopes in the same color, etc of your order. You do not need more invitations - only extra envelopes because accidents happen when hand writing.
Check Postage- it is strongly encouraged to make sure you know how much your invite will cost to mail, if not, it might be a costly mistake with returned invitations!
